Before installing the Android APK

Compatibility, package identity, signing certificate and on-device playback are not independently verified. The release is appropriate only for users comfortable evaluating a pre-release. If you need a tested app or cannot verify its provenance, wait for further release evidence.

  1. Download only VideoView-Android-1.0.0.apk from the official release above. Do not use a repackaged copy from an unrelated download site.
  2. Compare its full SHA-256 digest. On a Windows computer, run:
    Get-FileHash .\VideoView-Android-1.0.0.apk -Algorithm SHA256
A match checks file integrity; it does not audit permissions, signing identity or security.
  3. Review the source, release status and any device security warning before deciding whether to install. Android may require permission for the particular browser or file manager to install apps from that source. Labels vary by device and Android version. Grant that permission only if you have chosen to trust this APK, and revoke it afterward.
  4. Keep Play Protect and other device security checks enabled. If the device reports the APK as unsafe, incompatible or blocked, stop and seek clarification instead of bypassing the protection.
  5. Review requested permissions. Use a non-sensitive local test video first. Check media browsing, playback, audio and controls on your own device, then report the device model, Android version and exact error if anything fails.

What is still unknown?

The published asset alone does not establish a minimum Android version, supported device architecture, codec matrix, signing continuity or upgrade compatibility. Android permissions and data handling need review. Windows feature descriptions, Windows privacy claims and Windows test results should not be applied to the Android edition.

If Android reports “App not installed,” record the exact message and check that the download is complete. A version or signing conflict may require developer investigation. Do not delete an existing app or its data just to force an upgrade; signing continuity has not been established.

Feedback and next releases

Use the support and issue-reporting guide. Describe which action failed and whether the same media plays elsewhere. Do not attach private videos or personal file paths to public reports.
